Obituary of Hannah Kay First

MONTICELLO, IOWA Hannah Kay First, 19, of Monticello died Monday, March 18, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish vigil service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Birch. Hannah was born on January 27, 1994, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Lisa (Kraus) First. She graduated from Monticello High School with the Class of 2012. She attended classes at St. Ambrose University. She worked with her "Fareway Family" since she was 14 years old. She always put others first, and loved her pets, especially her dog, Gus. She enjoyed baking treats for friends and family, and long shopping excursions. Survivors include her parents, Lisa and Mike, 3 sisters: Molly (Tyler) McDowell of Cedar Rapids, Addy (her twin) and Natalie First; maternal grandparents, Mike (Emily) Kraus and Nancy (Merle) Gerdes, paternal grandparents, Marilyn (Doug) Picray and the late Lynn First, maternal great-grandfather, Victor Kraus, and paternal great-grandfather Roy Null, all of Monticello, aunts and uncles, Brian (Shelly) Kraus, Brenda Kraus, Aaron (Carol) First, and Kati (Jim) Besler, 7 cousins, and many great-aunts & uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Lynn First, great-grandparents, Janice Kraus, Marvin and Mabel Oltmann, Carlene Null, and Don and Ruth First. The family would like to thank all the staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, especially Mary Schlapchol and Dr. Mohammed Milhem for their continuing care and concern over the past 9 years, and Above and Beyond Hospice. We would like to particularly thank all of our family, friends, and the community of Monticello for all the love and support you've shown since Hannah's diagnosis.
