Obituary of Marvin Willenborg

Marvin was born June 13, 1926, in Petersburg, Iowa the son of Herman and Elenor (Scherbring) Willenborg. He attended SS. Peter & Paul School through the 8th grade and was inducted into the US Army in 1950. He was captured May 19, 1951 in Korea and was a POW until August 13, 1953. On February 7, 1955, he married Caryl Ungs at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Together they farmed North of Petersburg until 1987. He worked for Gerry's Welding in New Vienna from 1989 to 1997. Marv was a member of the Edward W. Lake V.F.W. Post 7736 and American Legion Post 137, the Dyersville Baseball Boosters and was a Commercial Club Park Volunteer. He enjoyed his fishpond waterfall and making his backyard a home for all the squirrels and feathered friends. Marv is survived by his wife, Caryl, 1 son, Chris (Pattie) Willenborg; 5 daughters: Laurie (Marlin) Wedmore of Des Moines, IA, Ellen (Steve) Hunt and Sarah (Bruce) Feldman, both of Dyersville, Jane (Ed) Cline of Boone, IA, and Molly (Jeff) Haberbosch of Denver, CO; 11 grandchildren: Tim & Kimber Willenborg, Adam & April Wedmore, Nicholas & Thomas Hunt, Cody, Jackson & Levi Feldman and Tyler & Megan Haberbosch; 4 step-grandchildren: Kristi, Kelly, Lisa and Jason Behel; 1 step great granddaughter, McKenna Merkes; 1 sister-in-law, Helen Willenborg and 1 brother-in-law, Lee Krapfl; many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Mildred Krapfl and Doris Willenborg, and a brother, Maurice Willenborg. American Legion/V.F.W. service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and accord Military Rites at the graveside.
