Obituary of Charles H. Hellmann
HOLY CROSS, IOWA
Charles H. Hellmann, 92, of Holy Cross, Iowa passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at Hawkeye Care Center, in Asbury, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross, Iowa where a military service will commence at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral mass.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.
Charles was born on April 15, 1932, son of Anthony and Otillia (Loecke) Hellmann. He married Mary Steffensmeier on September 21, 1961, in Dyersville, Iowa.
Charlie was a lifelong farmer near Holy Cross and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion Post #656.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; children: Betty (Merlin) Feldmann of Epworth, Mike Hellmann, Barb (friend, Steve) Hellmann, Rhonda (Tim) Tranel all of Dubuque, Wayne (Teresita) Hellmann of Holy Cross; grandchildren: Tracy (Matt) Kayser of Renton, WA, Nathan (Marypaz) Tranel of Valparaiso, IN, Jarrett (friend, Ashley) Tranel of Palentine, IL, Nikki Tranel of Dubuque, Katie and Kristine Hellmann of Holy Cross; great grandchildren: Frances and Elwood Kayser, and Baby Tranel on the way; siblings: Clete (Correne) Hellmann of Ryan, Eileen (Ed) Recker Prier of Dyersville; in-laws, Eileen Hellmann of Ryan, Fred Steffensmeier of Farley, Jim (Rita) Steffensmeier of Dyersville, Agnes Steffensmeier and Elaine Steffensmeier, both of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Emil and Monica Steffensmeier; son-in-law, Phil Brunsman; siblings: Ambrose Hellmann, Germaine (John) Langel, Bernice (Chuck) Thole, Dolores (Dave) Putz; in-laws: Ralph Recker, Florence (Joe) Meis, Gene (Helen) Steffensmeier, Lucille (Gene) Prier, Eldon (Clara) Steffensmeier, Art Steffensmeier, Alice (Ric) Nadermann, Don Steffensmeier, and Andrea Steffensmeier.
