Obituary of Dorothy Anne Marie Porter
Dorothy Ann Porter 70, of Monticello passed away Wednesday morning, October 23, 2024. She was being cared for in her home after battling a prolonged illness.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Dorothy Ann (Maker) Porter was born on June 5th, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Lester Harold and Helen Ann Maker of Manchester, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Dubuque, Iowa. Dorothy was also the oldest of nine siblings. While living in Dubuque she started working at the early age of 14 and worked various jobs during her life, some were waitressing and nursing. She later relocated to Delaware County and worked for LSI and serving with Law Enforcement, which she enjoyed. During her life she also became a devoted and loving mother to her four daughters, Amy, Leah, Nicole, and Lee. On December 28th, 1996, Dorothy was united in marriage to Francis Karl Porter in Dundee, Iowa.
Dorothy enjoyed the simple things in life like thrifting, cooking, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her garden of flowers, watching movies with her husband and being an animal lover to the dogs she had throughout the years. Dorothy had a fun witty sense of humor but was also a caring and supportive person to all that knew her. Her strong-mindedness and family gave her the purpose of living her life to the fullest as she fought a courageous battle until the end. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and wife. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Survivors include her husband, Francis K. Porter, her four daughters Amy T. Maker, Leah (David S.) Minnihan, Nicole (Cory) Fragale and Lee Porter. She was blessed with many grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also, her remaining five siblings and sister-in-law.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arthur and Helen (Loeffelholtz) Koch, Paternal Grandparents Arthur and Emma (Block) Maker, her parents, Lester and Helen Maker, her brothers Steve Maker and Chris Maker and sister Blenda in infancy.
