I only knew Mel as the neighbor of my folks when they moved to town. He was a warm and compassionate person. I guess I'll never get that free beer tomorrow.

I loved spending time at Uncle Melvin and Aunt Betty's house as a child. More recently, Uncle Melvin gave Frank and me a tour of the farm when they hosted us at the time of our family reunion. He was always cheerful, kind and energetic. Uncle Melvin also had a great sense of humor. May he rest in peace. Sending love and hugs to Aunt Betty and all of the family. God bless you all and may He bring you comfort and peace. Love and prayers, Theresa

I remember a birthday party for Beth in which he gave us all rides in a wagon pulled by a horse. Such a loving gentle man. My sympathies to you all.

So sorry to hear of Mel's passing. He and Betty were always very kind to me. I recall watching the Fireworks from their home in Monticello - it was either 4th of July or possibly during the County Fair, along with many other social events with my parents.
May warm memories comfort you. God loves farmers for sure.

Our sympathy to the Manternach family. Mel was always fun to chat with as he had a great sense of humor and loved to tease people. We will miss seeing him as he often stopped at our shop to pick up parts for the boys. Mel & Betty were a great couple! I always enjoyed watching them dance at various receptions. They were excellent together and a real inspiration! Mel will be missed by all who knew him.
