Obituary of Robert Nicholas Ungs

LUXEMBURG, IOWA

Robert N. Ungs, 88, of Luxemburg, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12^th Ave SW in Dyersville.  Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate and military honors will be accorded.

Robert was born September 26, 1929, on the family farm near Luxemburg, the son of Aloysious and Emma (Brecht) Ungs.  He married and had 8 wonderful children, but they later divorced.  He served in the US Army from 1953 – 1955, and when he returned home he farmed on the family farm. He enjoyed working hard in the shop, and woodworking.  He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Farm Bureau, and the Holy Trinity Parish.  He was family oriented and enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: John (Aubrey) Ungs of Dubuque, Matt Ungs of Lincoln, NE, Maria (Terry) Gordon of Sumter, SC, Theresa Ungs (Charles Truitt) of Dyersville, Nick (Ashley) Ungs and Phil (Cindy) Ungs, both of Luxemburg, Patrick Ungs and Sarah Ungs, both of Dyersville; 11 grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Iva Ungs of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Peter Joseph Ungs in 1983, and a brother, Marvin Ungs in 1998.
